BRABUS Shadow 800

The BRABUS Shadow 800 is the first in series of limited production, high performance Super yacht tenders. It has been built in conjunction with German high-performance car manufacturer BRABUS, of which at the moment only 20 will be made. Launched at the Dusseldrorf boat show the twin 400hp Verado outboard powered boat is based on the Axopar 37. In fact it uses the same twin-step GRP hull of the Axopar 37, just it is available in black or dark grey, instead of white. There are many differences in layout and detailing, in particular the absence of the aft cabin as fitted to the standard 37. There are also plenty of carbon fibre features, as you would expect from a boat with design input from a high-performance car manufacturer.
The Shadow 800 has a distinctive, bold colour scheme based upon BRABUS’ signature black, complemented with small touches of red. Its look is achieved using a high-quality Alexseal yacht paint system. And for clients desir­ing a more elegant appearance the BRABUS Shadow 800 will be available in a second color scheme, featuring a grey hull with red applications and an interior in custom colours. In keping with its exterior design, the interior will feature modern grey, white and black materials as well as original BRABUS carbon components. This boat also has fingertip steering control via Mercury’s 360 degree JPO joystick system. Many other integrated features such as underwater cameras, and the latest navigational equipment and options, will complete the high-tech appeal of this striking boat.
Having recently tested the Axopar 37 (featured in this issue) I have no doubt that this boat will perform as good as it looks. It is claimed to be capable of over 50 knots, which is a realistic if not modest claim. The standard Axopar 37 Sun-Top reached a two-way average of 47.5 knots, with twin 300hp Verado outboards, so the 800hp BRABUS Shadow will push comfortably past that 50 knot barrier. Being that it will have the same efficient deep-vee hull, that cuts a mean pace through most chop, at speeds that would have similar boats backing off, it will certainly do its engines justice. Some may consider the 400hp Verado with only a two year warranty as a potential liability in the long term. However from the feedback I have received from somebody who has used them extensively in extreme testing conditions, is that they are as tough as they are powerful.
Due to the worldwide dealer network associated with both companies, and the boating public’s reaction to the first running prototype, sales demand is expected to be high. Following the Shadow 800 in 2018, the future range of bespoke luxury boats will expand up to 45 feet within the next few years. These boats will be built in a new ultra-modern production facility which will be ready in 2019, dedicated exclusively to the BRABUS Axopar partnership.
The BRABUS Shadow 800 will be extensively equipped as standard, with a price of £350,000, inc VAT, at today’s exchange rate. This will include 2 x Mercury Verado 400 Racing engines with Joystick piloting, autopi­lot, twin GPS plotters, VHF as well as an extensive array of electronic equipment.
