Focus Forza 37

Eye-catching yet practical, the Forza 37 is more than just a 50-knot day boat.

Amsterdam-based Focus Motor Yachts are sadly a yacht builder we will see little evidence of in UK waters, as their range of stylish all-weather sports cruisers, built to exacting standards in terms of fit and finish, are also highly qualified for the testing waters we find around our shores.

The new Focus Forza 37 has laid down a blueprint for this company’s new premium Forza line. Designed by UK naval architect Tony Castro, it has been constructed principally as a Med-style luxury day boat. However, it is a highly versatile ‘high-end leisure platform’ whose practical yet eye-watering lines tell you that this is more than just a Monaco runabout. Capable of speeds in excess of 50 knots, it offers the cruising practicality of a large weekender, the performance of an offshore powerboat, and the style and quality of a superyacht tender. It has an interestingly wide array of engine options, ranging from twin 270hp 3.0 TDI Mercury diesels on sterndrives to twin 600hp Mercury Verado V12 outboards, all offered with joystick control.

It appears that the range of engine options may have been expanded since the model’s conception, as it seems that the maximum power option was originally twin 370hp Mercury V8 diesels on Bravo III XR sterndrives. This would have given this boat a top speed of around 43 knots – far from sluggish. However, the attraction of a pair of 440hp Volvo D6s on DPI sterndrives for a boat like this is clearly something not to be ignored, so these are also on the list. Not doing things by halves, Focus top the options with the all-out twin 600hp Mercury outboard set-up – designed for those that believe that life begins at 50 knots. Its formidable on-water performance is accommodated by a reinforced deep-vee non-stepped hull, which benefits from secondary lamination for extra rigidity, hence its ability to accommodate a wide range of engines. High-capacity fuel and water tanks are provided to cater for the long passages this boat can cover.

As part of the standard package, the Forza’s cockpit features a central console, teak decks and a wet bar with grill. It also provides the option of hydraulic fold-down bulwarks on both sides, so you can expand your cockpit zone by 20% at the touch of a button. This ‘floating beach’ sensation is enhanced by a user-friendly walk-around design, fore and aft sunloungers, an open transom and an extended hydraulic swim platform. The latter can lower 1 metre into the water and has a payload of 600kg, so lifting tenders on board is not a problem. The cockpit is rated for up to 10 guests, and the custom-coloured hardtop with retractable glass and extendable canvas manages the sun when needed.

Down below, the Forza 37 has been designed for the needs of a cruising couple. There’s a large permanent double berth, a fully equipped galley and an enclosed heads compartment with separate standing shower. Different choices of wood interior are available, and the Alcantara/leather trim is supplemented with smart LED lighting and panoramic hull windows.

The cost ranges from 408,000 euros for a basic-spec boat with twin 270hp Mercury diesels to 610,000 euros for a Forza fitted with twin 600hp Mercury Verados (both plus VAT). As is to be expected with such a bespoke craft, there is a wide range of extras, which along with engine choices can be configured on their website to determine cost.
