The current electronics race has just experienced another step forward with the launch of Garmin’s new Ultra-High-Definition Sonar. This new technology uses a higher frequency range than before to deliver clear images of life below the boat. Garmin claim that the clarity and detail of fish, rocks, brush piles and structure are redefined with this sonar system. It includes Ultra-High-Definition ClearVü and Ultra High-Definition SideVü sonar with frequencies ranging from 0.8 to 1.2 MHz. The superior ClearVü image clarity lets anglers see up to 200 feet below the boat – much deeper than other high-frequency scanning sonars. It is claimed that anglers can now enjoy the greatest detail available to date from a Garmin system.
It is available as a stand-alone system that’s compatible with the systems listed below. Ultra-high-definition delivers greater resolution by putting more power on the targets with a higher frequency range than before. Ultra-High-Definition ClearVü scans with a downward-facing element that provides clear images at depths down to 200 feet. For a detailed look at what’s around the boat, Ultra-High Definition SideVü shows clear images of structure and fish off to the sides of the boat. Imagery from the ultra-high-definition system can be shared seamlessly across multiple networked displays, using the extra network expander on the GCV 20 sonar black box.
The ultra-high-definition scanning sonar system includes the GCV 20 sonar black box, a GT34UHD transducer, and both transom and trolling motor mounts. It’s compatible with GPSMAP 8400, GPSMAP 7400, GPSMAP 1022/1222, GPSMAP 1222/1222xsv Touch and GPSMAP 722/922 series chartplotters, and the 7″ and 9″ ECHOMAP Plus combo series. It is expected to be available in 2018 with a suggested retail price starting from £649.99.
