In more ways than one, this boat takes the RIB to another level.

The Omega 48, the latest from Technohull, as stunning as it is rapid, is expected to launch later this year. This 48-footer introduces the brand’s new design philosophy – offering a contemporary perspective on comfort and luxury, while remaining loyal to its high-performance DNA. Boasting an expansive deck space and a 4.72m beam, this boat is undoubtedly one of the most impressive super-RIBs to date.

Its biggest focus, not too surprisingly, is how it drives. Engine options vary from twin 600hp Mercury V12 outboards to five 450hp Mercury V8s, with diesel options available – though you can’t help but feel that diesels, even with surface drives, would not really fit this boat’s persona. The Omega 48 sports a ‘wave-piercing hull design optimised for outstanding performance’ even while taking into consideration its wide beam. This is the latest incarnation of Technohull’s proven and patented ‘Dynastream hull’, known for its excellent rough-weather seakeeping and efficiency. Top-quality gelcoats, multiaxial fibres and carbon-infused components, combined with resin infusion technology, produce an exceedingly durable hull.

The boat features a new aerodynamic hardtop design, which, coupled with a full glass windscreen, provides absolute protection from the elements. The helm has a double row of triple shock-absorbing helm seats, all upholstered in premium marine fabrics. A super-wide, fully equipped console with twin 16in Raymarine MFDs, joystick and digital switching provides the helmsman with the tools to enjoy the driving experience to the full.

For the first time on a Technohull, a generous island sunbed sits in the aft deck area. This distinctive feature enables guests to enjoy a comfy stern view of life at speed or keep an eye on wakeboarders and skiers. The bathing platform wraps around the engines, whether they be the ‘sensible’ double V12 set-up or the all-out quintuple 450hp V8s. With the twin power option, the amount of bathing platform space is impressive, and with twin diesel engines hiding under the sunbed you truly get a large expanse of synthetic teak.

There are alternative deck layout options, including a back-to-back couch with a mini bar (or a fully equipped wet bar), as well as the possibility of complementing the island sunbed with a couch and table. Under the aft sunbed sits a large garage, which, with its dual opening, offers vast storage space for water toys, and even a small dinghy. At the bow, a long spacious sunbed looks back on a wide console seat.

You could easily be fooled into believing this boat has no below-decks accommodation. However, a pantographic door (opens out slightly then slides) sits on the starboard side of the console, which operates in James Bond-like style. This takes you down to a spacious cabin with a large double bed with plenty of storage beneath, and a heads compartment complete with sink and shower.

The Omega 48 certainly adds a new dimension to the concept of owning a RIB; however, the unanswered question for the moment is: how fast does a 2250hp rigid inflatable go? The order book is expected to open in early spring.
