An all-seeing system that sets new standards in reading the seabed ahead of you.

Known for their high-quality sonar systems, Danish company Daniamant have partnered with Raymarine for their latest sonar system. The 3D Gen4 EchoPilot Forward-Looking Sonar (FLS) has been built for direct integration with Raymarine Axiom multifunction displays. This is the latest generation of Daniamant’s 3D EchoPilot FLS, but now this Gen4 system offers direct compatibility and pairing with all Raymarine Axiom MFD models. Designed with state-of-the-art technology, it is claimed that the new FLS system offers skippers an unparalleled view of life below the keel. Users will benefit from full 360-degree rotation of the 3D image via a touch screen, as well as a zoom function.

The 3D Gen4 FLS comes with twin retractable transducers to ensure complete forward coverage whatever the hull form. The view ahead is 60 degrees in the horizontal plane and over 90 degrees in the vertical plane. The forward range is up to 200m, and it has a maximum depth capability of 100m. The importance of forward-looking sonar technology lies in its depth-to-range ratio. The 3D Gen4 FLS has an impressive 20 x depth ratio maximum. This means that you will see 100m ahead if you are in only 5m of water, and 10m is the depth at which it can read the seabed clearly out to 200m. It can obtain depth readings down to 100m, but this does not mean it can produce accurate seabed data out to 2000m, as sonar has its limitations. Daniamant claim that this is the highest ratio in forward-looking sonar technology to date. The display updates every second, so the skipper will always be updated on the seabed in real time. The 3D Gen4 FLS is also designed as a ‘black box’ to work with any brand of display that has a video input. The transducers come in two sizes, namely 5in and 10in depending on the hull, and with three different types of skin fitting: bronze, stainless steel or aluminium.

Developed to simply plug and play with Raymarine, the 3D Gen4 FLS is easily connected to the RAYNET via an RJ45 cable. Once integrated, the EchoPilot app appears on the Axiom display, allowing you to see in real time. With this integration, users will be granted exclusive features, including split-screen functionality. The sonar display can be adjusted for customised viewing, and the image can be altered to suit personal preference. It offers detection of seabed objects that may not be visible from the surface, or on the vessel’s chart. This feature is especially useful in shallow or poorly charted waters with rocks, reefs or other hazards. There are further benefits too, including helping to find anchoring spots through locating good holding ground with minimal underwater obstacles.

The price is available on application, and this system can be bought from Daniamant’s UK dealership in Portsmouth.
