The ECHOMAP Ultraseries are Garmin’s latest line of 10in and 12in touch screen chartplotters, designed to offer a high-performing all-in-one multifunction display for the serious fisherman. What this new MFD offers is a combination of a high-tech plotter and the very latest sonar technology in a single package. Claiming to be the best-in-class sonar solution, the ECHOMAP Ultra series has built-in support for Garmin’s Ultra High-Definition scanning sonar. Using Garmin’s £350 Ultra High-Definition all-in-one transducer (GT54UHD-TM), it has multiple sonar modes and can see down to 1500ft.

However, from a sonar perspective, Panoptix LiveScope is the most interesting feature of the Ultra series. It uses Garmin’s new single-array LVS12 transducer, delivering live scanning sonar images of structure, bait and fish below and around the boat in real time. The LSV12 has a price tag of £520. Alternatively, for those that want that ultimate underwater real-time viewing experience, there is also the Panoptix LiveScope System, which provides very highly detailed live sonar images, and can be adjusted to accommodate different viewing angles. It provides two views from one transducer, down and forward, with the facility to switch quickly between views. As well as providing imaging down to 200ft, an Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) provides stable imaging in rough weather. It can be either transom- or through-hull-mounted, though this is, of course, an expensive extra at £1,770. The Ultra range uses Garmin’s latest and detail-rich cartography ‒ BlueChart g3 and BlueChart g3 Vision charts, with integrated Navionics data and Auto Guidance1 technology.
