Troon Yacht Haven as a base for Scottish boating adventures

Troon is perfectly positioned on Scotland’s Ayrshire coast, being the first port of call when boaters arrive onto the Firth of Clyde. Whether you’re planning a quick getaway to nearby islands or embarking on a longer journey up the west coast, Troon Yacht Haven provides an excellent starting point. A rich maritime history and continued investment in facilities

Troon has a deep-rooted history in Scotland’s maritime heritage, with the port originally established in the 19th century.

Now owned and operated by Yacht Havens Group, the original harbour basins in Troon were constructed in the 1800s by the Duke of Portland for coal and timber shipping. The inner basin, where the marina now lies, was transformed into a marina in 1978 by a consortium led by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. To enable the development, the basin was drained with a temporary gate installed, allowing machinery to drive pontoon piles into the bedrock in dry conditions.

In recent years, the marina has seen substantial investment, including a £1.5 million upgrade in 2020.

This investment has focused on enhancing the marina’s infrastructure, expanding services and making Troon a more attractive option for luxury and superyacht owners. It also included the opening of the marina’s on-site hotel, The Salt Lodge, providing extra accommodation for crew needing a bed ashore for a night or two.

Visits from superyachts Reef Chief, Battered Bull and Aviva underscore the marina’s ability to cater for high-end vessels. These high-profile arrivals reflect Troon’s growing reputation as a leading destination for premium boating experiences in Scotland.
