The University of Macerata has introduced the first Master’s programme in marketing, communication, and journalism dedicated to the nautical sector. The Level I Master’s Degree in Marketing, Communication and Journalism in the Nautical Sector focuses on developing specialised skills for an industry that continues to grow in global significance.

A new educational pathway for a growing industry

Running from April 2026 to April 2027, the one year programme offers 1,500 hours of study, equal to 60 ECTS credits. Teaching takes place in a blended format, combining in person weekends with online lessons through the university’s e learning platform.

Enrollment is limited to 40 students, with the course activated once 25 places are filled.

An initiative born from industry collaboration

The programme was created by Fabio Petrone, Director of PressMare, together with Maurizio Minossi, President of the Marche Yachting and Cruising Association. Their proposal was submitted to the Rector of the University of Macerata, John Francis McCourt.

The Master’s was developed under the guidance of Prof. Elena Cedrola, supported by industry professionals including Roberta Sabatini, Tünde Harkácsi, Virginia De Carlo, and Petrone. A special acknowledgement is given to Massimo Pigliapoco for his contribution to course planning and communication strategy.

Course structure and career pathways

Teaching modules cover marketing, communication, sector analysis, yacht technology, digital media, co marketing, and professional English. The curriculum includes 239 hours of classes and a 250 hour internship or project placement, available in Italy or abroad.

Students will engage directly with shipyards, suppliers, media organisations, and associations to build practical skills. Career opportunities include roles in marketing departments, media outlets, PR agencies, trade associations, port authorities, and charter companies.
