Taiga and Aqua superPower Unite to Power Electric Adventures
Taiga Motors and Aqua superPower partner to expand charging networks and simplify electrification for electric off-road and marine vehicles.
This marine charging infrastructure project along the UK’s south coast is funded with £3.2 million from the Department for Transport’s UK SHORE programme and delivered by Innovate UK, the initiative launched in June 2023.
TES has established eight charging sites to support electric vessels under 24 metres. Locations include MDL Ocean Village, Fowey, and Trinity Landing on the Isle of Wight, with additional chargers in Lymington, Chichester Itchenor, and Falmouth. Some sites feature battery-backed systems from ZPN Energy to counter grid limitations, ensuring reliable shoreside charging.
Led by Aqua superPower and ZPN Energy, with input from the University of Plymouth and several councils, the superchargers project supports the UK’s Maritime 2050 decarbonisation goals. Environmental sensors installed at all sites monitor emissions and ecological impact.
The project builds on the Marine eCharging Living Lab and provides a scalable model for global adoption. It has fostered economic growth by encouraging the development of low-carbon marine businesses.
Aqua superPower also introduced a compatibility service for improved charger-vessel interoperability. ZPN Energy advanced retrofit and rapid deployment methods, while the University of Plymouth gathered environmental data to guide future strategy.
Partners including South Hams District Council, BCP Council, and the UK Harbour Masters’ Association view the initiative as integral to clean maritime strategies. TES is now a template for sustainable marine infrastructure worldwide.
