LA Marine has announced its sponsorship of the 2025 Superyacht UK Young Designer Competition, held during the Southampton Boat Show. The event offers Masters students and 2nd- or 3rd-year undergraduates from any design discipline the opportunity to create an original superyacht concept under timed conditions. Only hand-drawn sketches are permitted, testing participants’ creativity and technical ability.
Finalists will present their designs to a panel of industry experts, with the winner securing an internship at a leading design studio. The competition has a history of helping winners launch careers in prominent international studios.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, LA Marine’s sponsorship reflects its ongoing support for emerging talent within the maritime sector. The firm, known for its commercial shipping and leisure marine legal services, views this initiative as a way to foster new industry connections and encourage future innovation.
“Encouraging fresh talent is key to the future of the marine industry, and this competition offers young designers a real-world platform,” said Philippa Langton, Partner at LA Marine.
The Superyacht UK Young Designer Competition continues to bridge the gap between education and industry, offering participants networking opportunities, mentorship and a showcase to key yacht design professionals.
