A New Era for Sustainable Travel

New Zealand marine innovator Vessev has confirmed its first European customer with the sale of its VS–9 electric hydrofoiling vessel to Finn Lough, an eco resort in Northern Ireland. The nine-metre catamaran will provide guests with a smooth, silent, and zero-emission way to explore Lower Lough Erne when it arrives in 2026.

The VS–9: Innovation in Motion

Built in New Zealand, the VS–9 uses carbon fibre hydrofoils to lift above the water, reducing drag and energy costs by up to 90%. The vessel produces minimal wake and noise, combining performance with environmental responsibility. Its all-electric propulsion creates an experience that is both efficient and unforgettable.

The VS–9’s wraparound glazing maximises views of the surrounding landscape. This design approach recently earned the vessel a Red Dot Design Award, recognising its experience-first focus.

Finn Lough Leads the Way

By investing in the VS–9, Finn Lough becomes Europe’s first luxury hospitality destination to adopt electric hydrofoiling transport. Located two hours from Belfast, the resort is known for its forest setting, Bubble Domes, and design-led approach to guest experiences.

Resort co-owner Michael Beare said the partnership captured Finn Lough’s ethos: “It connects people more deeply to a place…pairing the untamed beauty of the lake with a thoughtfully designed, elevated way to explore it.”

Vessev’s Growing Global Reach

Vessev CEO Eric Laakmann highlighted how operators across hospitality and transport are recognising the value of hydrofoiling vessels: “A flight on a VS–9 offers passengers an unforgettable experience, while creating opportunities for operators. We’re proud to partner with pioneers like Finn Lough.”

The company is already seeing success in New Zealand, with ferry operator Fullers360 running a VS–9, Kermadec, on Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour. With international demand growing, Vessev is now scaling production to deliver more vessels worldwide.
