Volvo Penta is set to make waves in Ft. Lauderdale with the world premiere of its groundbreaking Assisted Docking system for boats with DPI drives as the next step in marine automation, designed to deliver an easier and more intuitive experience to ensure life at sea is accessible to a broader audience of boaters. Volvo Penta will roll out its latest docking solution in collaboration with MJM Yachts as well as offer the first test drives of the new technology.
This follows the digital reveal of Assisted Docking for DPI drives together with Nimbus and rock climber Britta-Kajsa Mårtensson in an adventure film shot in Croatia, which will be shown in both the Volvo Penta and Nimbus booths at FLIBS and is part of an on-going collaborative campaign.
Expanding Volvo Penta’s portfolio of unique marine features, the company’s latest launch makes its semi-automated docking technology available across its Inboard Performance System (IPS) package as well as with twin DPI drives. The solution is engineered to revolutionize how boaters handle docking in tight spaces and challenging conditions, allowing the operator to defy the elements and experience more control and peace of mind.
At the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, visitors will have the first opportunity to test drive Volvo Penta’s new Assisted Docking for DPI drives on an innovative MJM 4 model. As the first vessel in the North America to offer the new solution, the MJM 4 showcases how cutting-edge, boater-centric technology can transform the on-water experience. The Assisted Docking feature, first introduced for IPS in 2021, integrates with the advanced sensors of Volvo Penta’s GPS-based Dynamic Positioning System (DPS), which allows the vessel to compensate for variables such as wind and current and can stay on course in difficult conditions.
“Our collaboration with MJM Yachts is a prime example of how we’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible when it comes to easy boating,” said Jens Bering, vice president of marine sales at Volvo Penta. “By combining intuitive innovations with the most advanced, user-friendly boat designs, we’re able to deliver a solution that boosts performance and amplifies the enjoyment of life on the water – all with one cohesive package now available for more boaters.”
The MJM 4 is a high-performance yacht that perfectly complements Assisted Docking with its emphasis on drivability. Available with Volvo Penta’s powerful Twin D6 DPI package, the boat delivers unparalleled handling and smooth ride with effortless fingertip steering. Whether boaters are hosting a gathering or embarking on a weekend voyage, this all-weather/all-condition performance solution ensures comfort and enjoyment for all.
“Partnering with Volvo Penta has enabled us to take the MJM 4 to new heights in terms of ease and comfort,” said Chris Hughes, marketing director of MJM Yachts. “The integration of Assisted Docking not only enhances the performance of our boat but also transforms the boating experience for our customers, making it more accessible and enjoyable. We look forward to continuing our collaboration, focusing on innovative, user-centric technologies that set new benchmarks for the industry.”
Visitors to Volvo Penta’s main booth at FLIBS will have the opportunity to experience Assisted Docking through an immersive virtual reality (VR) demonstration. Volvo Penta will also be showcasing a full range of intuitive boating solutions, including the D13 IPS 1350 package, D6-400 with DPI, and V8-400 with Forward Drive (FWD).
In addition to its advanced portfolio of marine products, Volvo Penta is committed to supporting customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their boats. From design to installation, and offering superior service support, Volvo Penta works with customers through their entire journey. Volvo Penta solutions are backed by an extensive dealer network that is equipped with high-quality parts, diagnostic systems, certified technicians and more.
FLIBS will take place from October 30 to November 3, with Volvo Penta’s latest innovations on display at Booth #1203 in the Bahia Mar Yachting Center and on-water demos aboard the MJM 4 at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina.
