WATCHIT AI: Intelligent Collision Prevention for Modern Boating

WATCHIT, an innovative leader in collision prevention, are a company strongly focussed on boating safety. As part of their collaboration with Raymarine, a new and advanced anti-collision technology will be combined with Raymarine’s latest Axiom MFD range.

WATCHIT’s integration with Raymarine’s chartplotter range offers boaters a high level of situational awareness and safety on the water – whilst enhancing the capabilities of the display systems. Using sophisticated algorithms and sensor fusion, WATCHIT’s Smart Collision Prevention System is inspired by automotive safety technology.

It analyses a boat’s existing data and keeps itself continually updated, providing timely warnings before a collision occurs. The WATCHIT system offers comprehensive safety coverage – from collision avoidance to grounding prevention – all in one integrated system.

This system’s artificial intelligence keeps the human end user up to speed via audible alerts, informing you of the risk, and with visual displays. In the former instance, it will verbally tell you exactly what you are approaching – for example, shallow water, rocks or even another vessel identified by radar or AIS.

In the case of visual alerts, the skipper can view potential threats via a two-dimensional image/icon on an MFD, or, with Raymarine’s ClearCruise Augmented Reality camera system, real-time video footage. In this case, the threat is highlighted and annotated over the footage, alongside the audible alert telling you what you are looking at.

WATCHIT is ideal for long passages, especially with multiple watch keepers who have only recently climbed out of their bunk.

In a separate agreement, Raymarine’s LightHouse Charts have been selected as the official chart supplier for all WATCHIT systems. This collaboration ensures that WATCHIT users have access to high-quality, up-to-date nautical charts – further enhancing the system’s accuracy and reliability.
