Peter bounds up the pontoon at the Port of Poole Marina, salt still drying on his jacket and a huge grin on his face. He’s just come back from a morning session on the water, where he’s been learning to use the wind to come alongside—one of those deceptively simple yet essential skills that separates the casual from the confident. A new member of New Wave Club, based in the idyllic surroundings of Poole Harbour, Peter is clearly hooked.

“It fulfils everything we want to do with boating—without the stress,” he says. That perfectly sums up the club’s approach. New Wave is offering a lifestyle, a gateway to adventure and a way for boaters of all levels to get out onto the water without the hassle.

Why choose New Wave Club?

But it’s more than just ease and enjoyment. As befits the name, New Wave is part of a new era in boating, where fresh thinking drives accessibility and innovation. Getting on the water has never been easier and the membership model means that boating is accessible to people without prior experience or the cost of ownership.

Partnering with BRP's Uncharted Society

Ross is passionate about getting people to connect with the water and, after opening a second base in Torquay in 2024, New Wave Club has taken another big step by becoming the UK’s first marine partner for BRP’s Uncharted Society. BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products) is the company behind Sea-Doo, and Uncharted Society is their global adventure platform, offering curated experiences on land and water using their premium craft. The partnership introduces the country’s first Sea-Doo® Uncharted Society experiences with guided routes along the South Coast and even dedicated Sea-Doo fishing adventures. From Durdle Door to the Isle of Wight, members can now explore the coastline on premium GTI and GTX craft with the club’s team leading the way.

For owner Ross Ceaton, it also feels like coming full circle:

We’re thrilled to be part of Uncharted Society’s UK launch. In many ways, it’s a return to our sea-safari roots, but with a new level of choice and freedom. This chapter lets us share our passion with even more people—from seasoned riders to complete newcomers—and give them an easy, exciting way to experience our stunning coastline.

The shared boating model explained

Based in the sheltered waters of Poole Harbour, New Wave Club is part of a growing trend in shared-access boating. The model replaces traditional ownership with flexible packages, designed for those who want the thrill and freedom of boating without the burden of storage, maintenance, insurance or high upfront costs. Let’s face it, we’re all getting used to the subscription experience from watching films to shared co-working spaces and the marine industry can only benefit from this trend. Boat clubs introduce more people into the industry, encouraging some to eventually buy their own boats, while marinas benefit from more consistent year-round use of their facilities.

Boat ownership can be limiting—it’s expensive, time-consuming. Our model removes those barriers—you just turn up and go.

Premium fleet and expert instruction

Offering access to a premium fleet of Sea-Doo jet skis and boats including a sleek Axopar 28, the club’s packages are designed for all experience levels. Novice boaters can gain confidence with expert instruction from RYA instructors, while experienced members can get to grips with unfamiliar models.

What stood out most is the club’s diligence: Ross and his team don’t just give members a briefing and send them out—they keep going over skills until people feel genuinely confident. Safety and enjoyment come hand-in-hand, and new members know they’ll never be left struggling.

That care and attention runs through the whole operation. New Wave Club has been building skills and creating water-based adventures for over 16 years, and the experience shows—not just in the quality of instruction, but in how smoothly the whole system works.

Ross understands the balance between fleet size and member satisfaction, ensuring sessions aren’t over-subscribed. He’s also designed a bespoke booking app that makes scheduling simple and flexible. Members can check the weather, choose from three daily sessions, select their craft and track remaining credits. A last-minute booking and cancellation feature means plans can change without wasted sessions.

We didn’t want to be defined by one type of craft. The club is about giving people options—whether that’s blasting across the bay on a Sea-Doo, taking the family out on a RIB, or planning a day trip along the Jurassic Coast.

Member Testimonials

The club attracts a broad mix—from urban professionals looking for weekend adventure, to families keen to make the most of the coastline, and even long-time boat owners ready to step back from the responsibilities of full ownership. What they all share is a love of the water and a desire for freedom without complication—plus the enjoyment of being part of a like-minded community. Sitting on the top deck of the small but smart clubhouse, with a coffee in hand, I chatted with some of the members as they finished their sessions. They were buzzing with enthusiasm for New Wave—though each had their own very different reason for signing up.

Peter—New Member

Q: What made you join New Wave?

A: “I’d been running a Bayliner 25 on a swinging mooring, but the hassle of upkeep and logistics was wearing me down. New Wave felt like the perfect stepping stone—I can get straight on the water without all the headaches.”

Q: How has the transition been?

A: “I never had a bow thruster before, so that’s been new, but Ryan’s instruction has been brilliant. He’s really helped me get used to marina pontoons, which I wasn’t confident with before. Honestly, my boating has actually got better since joining.”

Mark—Longstanding Member

Q: What do you enjoy most about your membership?

A: “I’ve always loved the jet skis, but recently I decided to do my Powerboat Level 2 with Ryan so that I can change to boat membership which will allow me to take my wife out and explore further afield.”

Q: What’s been your most memorable session?

A: “The solstice run was unforgettable—leaving the harbour at dawn and watching the sun rise above Sandbanks made the early start worth it. I also love the winter sessions: cold but bright days, and I always use all of my slots through the winter, so I get the full value from my membership. My job is flexible so I can come during the week when it’s quieter, which is a real bonus.”

Q: Did you have any boating experience beforehand?

A: “None at all. I’ve never been a huge fan of the water and I get quite seasick, so I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy it. I was offered a session and brought my best friend along and was hooked from the first ride! The speed, the power, the freedom… it’s like nothing else.”

Q: What would you say to other women thinking about joining?

A: “Just do it! You don’t need experience, the team are brilliant, the setup is great, and the roller docks make launching easy. It’s really empowering. There are a few of us ladies now, and the club’s got a lovely, welcoming feel. No egos—just good fun on the water.”

Building a boating community

New Wave is about more than convenience—it’s about community. Less formal than a yacht club but far more connected than a hire service, the club creates a sense of belonging through group trips, social events and shared adventures that bring members together both on and off the water. For many, it’s as much about friendship and atmosphere as it is about the boats themselves.

I like to think of us as a boat club without an ego, we all have a desire to connect with the water and we all love to have a good time.

Ryan

New Wave feels like a snapshot of boating’s future: modern craft, flexible access and a welcoming community that makes the water feel open to everyone. A refreshing alternative to ownership, giving members the freedom to enjoy the coastline on their own terms—because the best adventures are the ones you can actually get to.
