Savvy Navvy launches NMEA Connect for integrated onboard navigation

Marine navigation company Savvy Navvy has introduced NMEA Connect, a new feature that brings NMEA-enabled boat instruments directly into the app for real-time data display and enhanced AIS awareness.

Real-time insights from onboard instruments

Developed in partnership with Actisense, recognised for their NMEA interconnectivity expertise, the feature enables boaters to view live data, including wind, depth, engine RPMs, speed through water and heading. The integration allows users to combine onboard AIS with over-the-horizon AIS for a clearer picture of nearby vessels, supporting safer and more informed decision-making.

Through NMEA Connect, boaters can access their instrument data and Savvy Navvy’s smart routing on a single device, reducing the need to move between multiple screens or systems.

Industry perspectives

Boaters increasingly seek apps that simplify navigation and enhance onboard intelligence. NMEA Connect combines the proven reliability of NMEA technology with Savvy Navvy’s smart routing capabilities, giving boaters everything they need in one place. For boats without NMEA-compatible chart plotters, Savvy Navvy now becomes your all-in-one display.

Actisense highlight the value of deeper data visibility for both leisure and commercial operators.

Savvy Navvy already delivers a huge amount of value to boaters, pulling together geographic location and environmental data streams. The addition of NMEA data connection means that other integral navigation and systems data will give boaters better visibility of things like depth, speed over ground, wind speed, heading and engine RPM – all within the easy-to-use Savvy Navvy app. Actisense are proud to have partnered with Savvy Navvy, lending our NMEA specialism. We share company missions of making journeys safer and more efficient through better data.

Continued innovation

The launch follows recent additions including a new chart annotation tool and Three Point Fix, supporting instructors seeking interactive digital charting tools. With over three million downloads, the app continues to expand its feature set for the next generation of boaters.
