The Duchy 45's world premiere at Southampton

Cockwells is presenting the world premiere of its new Duchy 45 at Southampton International Boat Show, which is running from 18 to 27 September in Southampton. The launch adds the most spacious vessel yet to the builder’s Duchy range, designed to deliver elegant cruising and dependable performance in the classic style associated with the range.

What does the Duchy 45's saloon and cockpit offer?

The Duchy 45 features an expansive saloon, a large cockpit aft, and a super king-size master cabin with en-suite heads and stowage designed to maximise the available space, according to Cockwells. Double bifold doors open the saloon to its surroundings, while large windows and an optional sunroof bring in natural light; with the doors and sunroof open, Cockwells say the boat connects directly with its surroundings. Seating upholstered in waterproof fabric surrounds a veneered table, and an optional electric bimini provides shade from the sun. A transom walkthrough gate leads to a full-beam bathing platform that can be lowered hydraulically for swimming access or to lift out a tender, with sunbathing pads available at the bow. The galley includes four induction hobs, a combination oven, a double sink, and a full-size fridge and freezer.

How fast is the Duchy 45 and what powers it?

Built from low-maintenance composites, the Duchy 45 has a new semi-displacement hull designed by naval architect Andrew Wolstenholme, intended for cruising open seas as well as coastal waterways. Twin Volvo Penta IPS 600 pod drives integrate the engines, driveline and propellers, giving a cruising speed of 25 knots and a top speed of 31 knots. Full joystick control, virtual anchoring and dynamic positioning aid manoeuvrability, an optional passerelle assists stern-to mooring, and a bow thruster with an optional Seakeeper gyrostabiliser add stability at anchor or underway.

What layout options are available on the Duchy 45?

Buyers can choose between a twin cabin layout with the galley below, or a third cabin below with the galley adjoining the saloon, and a flybridge with an exterior helm and cockpit seating can be added for further outdoor space.
