SACS enters luxury yacht segment with new Hyper 5S model

Italian boatbuilder SACS has introduced the Hyper 5S, its first model in the luxury yacht segment after three decades building maxi-RIBs, including the Strider line and, more recently, the Rebel range. According to SACS, the new model continues a history of redefining design, performance and comfort standards across its range, and represents a new boat concept in its own right, rather than simply the first model in a new line.

The Hyper 5S draws on the direct relationship with the sea, sense of control and safety associated with maxi-RIBs, SACS says. Its styling carries forward the more recent Rebel line, evolved into what the builder describes as a more elegant, refined and architectural form, while retaining the perimeter protection that has defined SACS’s boats. The company designed the model in response to changing habits among boat owners who, it says, want a boat that can welcome, engage, unite and evolve with different uses.

The Hyper 5S is built around a continuous deck, a walkaround for safe movement at the bow, opening side terraces, convertible sunbathing areas and configurable stern layouts. The aft cockpit measures 25 square metres, increasing to 32 square metres when the side terraces are opened. At the bow, a sunbathing area and chaise longue, a feature previously used on the Rebel line, sit beneath a large hardtop housing the control panel, electronic instruments and home automation systems. Amidships is a wet bar next to a U-shaped sofa. Two stern layouts are offered: a sun bed with a tender garage, or two independent, movable sun beds that can be joined into a single space.

Owners can choose an open or closed version of the Hyper 5S, with the closed configuration adding side windows beneath the hardtop for shelter on longer cruises or in poor weather. Below deck, the owner’s cabin sits at the bow beneath panoramic windows, with a bathroom and separate shower amidships. At the stern, a multifunctional space allows the sofa to convert into a bed, adding further flexibility on board.

The Hyper 5S was designed by Christian Grande, whose brief was to evolve SACS’s established styling into what the builder calls a more architectural and forward-looking design. Four propulsion configurations are offered: twin 850 hp MAN engines with surface drives, aimed at the sportiest performance; four Mercury Verado outboards, in 600 hp V12 or 425 hp V10 form; triple 480 hp Volvo Penta stern drives; or twin 600 hp Volvo Penta IPS 800 pod drives, which SACS says are intended to maximise efficiency and manoeuvrability.

The Hyper 5S is due to make its official debut at this autumn’s boat shows, beginning with the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.
