IMPORTANT INFORMATION : SCAM ATTEMPT
We have just received a note from an advertiser letting us know someone is attempting a
TELEPHONE SCAM USING THE POWERBOAT & RIB NAME TO ATTEMPT TO GET BANK DETAILS
The scammer suggests they are from HSBC (may change bank reference to your bank) saying that there are multiple payments due to go out to Powerboat & RIB and that only if they are given your username for online access then he could stop the 10 payments that were about to go out. When told by the recipient (who was suspicious) that they would call HSBC back, the scammer was insistent and bullying to get the username saying it’s the only way they could stop the transactions. They hung up.
We suspect that the scammer may be using the magazine as a basis for calling our advertisers to try to fool them into giving their bank details.
Powerboat & RIB has not requested multiple payments from any bank account, nether do we have an ability to do so as we do not run an in-house direct debit system. We therefore do not hold advertisers bank details. PLEASE DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE THIS CALLER YOUR BANK DETAILS OR ONLINE LOG IN.
