Superyacht Lunasea sets new arrival record at Ocean Village Marina

MDL Marinas’ Ocean Village Marina told PBR that they have welcomed the largest yacht in its history, with the 73-metre motor yacht Lunasea arriving in Southampton. Ocean Village Marina says the arrival sets a new record for the site and demonstrates its capacity to welcome some of the world’s largest visiting yachts.

Lunasea arrived on the South Coast following a cruise in Scotland and a passage from Norway, and will make Ocean Village her short-term home ahead of the next stage of her programme, which includes a winter refit. The yacht has a beam of 11.4 metres, a maximum draught of 3.65 metres and a crew of 28.

The visit also carries a local connection. Lunasea’s captain, Matthew Ledingham, began his maritime career working on the Hythe Ferry before progressing into the international superyacht industry, making his return to Southampton something of a homecoming to the Solent.

During their stay, Lunasea’s crew will have access to Ocean Village’s waterfront, including the five-star Harbour Hotel Southampton and a choice of restaurants and bars such as The Jetty, HarBAR on 6th and Banana Wharf, all within easy reach. Lunasea is expected to remain at Ocean Village for approximately one month.

The arrival follows further recognition for Ocean Village Marina, which was named Marina of the Year at the British Yachting Awards in both 2023 and 2025. Situated in the heart of Southampton and close to the Solent, Ocean Village combines dedicated superyacht berthing and marina facilities with a waterfront destination, giving visiting owners and crew convenient access to hotels, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities.

Ocean Village says it is the UK’s first and only five-star marina, able to accommodate superyachts up to 80 metres with depths of up to 4 metres, 24-hour security and fully serviced pontoons providing fresh water and three-phase electricity. This capability follows a £2.2 million investment in upgraded pontoons, smart electric technology and shoreside infrastructure.
