Windermere unveils new sustainable GT Mono Light class
Windermere’s third sustainable race day introduced a new national class and underlined growing momentum behind lower-carbon powerboat racing.
Mercury Marine has introduced Joystick Piloting for Single-Engine Outboards with Thruster, a system designed to improve docking and close-quarter manoeuvring.
The technology integrates joystick control with a bow thruster, offering 360-degree manoeuvrability, single-hand operation, and SmartCraft® digital anchoring features, including Skyhook, Bowhook, and Drifthook. It is compatible with Mercury Verado and SeaPro V8, V10, and V12 engines (250–600hp) and CAN-based thrusters.
The system simplifies handling for leisure boaters, allowing precise control in tight spaces. According to Steve Andrasko, Vice President of Category Management at Mercury Marine, “Close-quarter manoeuvring with a single-engine vessel can be challenging, even for a skilled captain… With this new system, the boat operator can command steering, throttle, and shifting of the outboard motor and simultaneously activate a variable-speed bow thruster, all with one hand through a single, intuitive joystick.”
This joystick piloting innovation is expected to appeal to boaters seeking an easier, more confident docking experience.
