Icom-M85E VHF Handheld
Designed with an emphasis on commercial use, as well as marine leisure, the IC-M85E is a very compact, high-quality waterproof VHF marine handheld radio. It meets both marine and Private Business Radio (PBR) applications. Robustly constructed, the IC-M85E contains critical commercial features, including a built-in voice scrambler for total security, and emergency features such as Man Down and Lone Worker functions. It also has an MOB feature, which, like the Man Down/Lone Worker functions, will transmit this alarm to other IC-M85Es within range, as well as an audible alert.
At a simple push of a button, it changes between marine and PBR channels. Up to 100 free licensed business band channels are available for land use (146–174 MHz). Wide/narrow channel spacing is programmable for each channel, and CTCSS and DTCS signalling is built in. Channel group changing or the scrambler ON/OFF function can be assigned in the multifunction button on the top panel. The Key Lock function can be activated by holding the lock button.
It is the most compact (W×H×D: 56×92×29 mm) and, weighing just 246g, the most lightweight commercial-grade marine and land mobile hybrid radio in the world. Despite its compact body, it delivers 700mW of loud audio. The IPX7-rated IC-M85E is built to endure submersion of up to 1m for 30 minutes. The radio also passes MIL-STD-810 specifications.
To go with the commercial design and application, an extensive range of audio accessories are available, including a full range of headsets, earphones and speaker microphones. The cost is £299 (inc. VAT).
