Open Morning at Southsea Marina
A special invitation from Premier Marinas this October.
Sir David Attenborough is to present a feature film on the critical role of oceans in the earth’s survival. Arksen and marine charity “10% for the Ocean” have announced their co-production of Ocean, a new feature film presented by Sir David Attenborough. Released in partnership with Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios, the film explores the critical role oceans play in sustaining life on Earth.
Set to premiere at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 6 May, the film will then be shown globally in cinemas across 26 countries from 8 May, followed by distribution on National Geographic, Disney+ and Hulu later in 2025.
Ocean showcases vital marine ecosystems such as coral reefs and kelp forests, while addressing urgent threats like destructive fishing and coral bleaching. Despite the challenges, the film offers an optimistic outlook, spotlighting successful restoration efforts and global collaboration.
The project aims to highlight a core issue: ocean conservation receives less than 1% of global environmental funding. Of $811 billion in annual charitable donations worldwide, just 0.3% is directed to ocean initiatives. This, despite oceans covering 70% of Earth and producing over half its oxygen.
Through Ocean, 10% for the Ocean advocates redirecting 10% of philanthropic giving toward marine conservation. This would unlock an estimated $80 billion annually to support marine recovery efforts globally.
Arksen founder Jasper Smith said the film exemplifies how storytelling can mobilise awareness and funding. With World Ocean Day and the UN Ocean Conference approaching, the film aims to rally global support for marine protection.
